Prince Harry

The Duke of Sussex, paid a heartfelt visit to St. George’s Chapel, the final resting place of Queen Elizabeth II, to mark the one-year anniversary of her passing. This solemn occasion brought him back to Windsor Castle, where the chapel is situated.

Harry’s visit to the United Kingdom included attending an awards ceremony sponsored by WellChild, a charity dedicated to terminally ill children, of which he serves as patron. However, it was reported that he did not plan to meet with his father, King Charles III, or his brother, Prince William, during his stay.

During the WellChild event, Harry shared his thoughts about the queen in his speech, expressing, “I was unable to attend the awards last year as my grandmother passed away … I know, exactly one year on, that she is looking down on all of us tonight, happy we’re together, continuing to spotlight such an incredible community.”Prince Harry

While Prince Harry was in Windsor, King Charles III and Queen Camilla attended a special church service near Balmoral Castle. It was at Balmoral Castle, on September 8, 2022, that Queen Elizabeth passed away at the age of 96. The queen had a longstanding tradition of spending her summers at Balmoral Castle during her 70-year reign, a tradition now continued by Charles.

In addition to attending the church service, King Charles III released a statement to the public, commemorating his mother’s life and service. He expressed gratitude for the support he and Queen Camilla have received during their year of service to the nation.

The first anniversary of Queen Elizabeth’s death also saw the release of a previously unpublished photo of the queen. Captured by photographer Cecil Beaton on October 16, 1968, at Buckingham Palace, this image was selected by Charles for this significant occasion.

Prince William and Kate, the Prince and Princess of Wales, commemorated the queen’s memory during their visit to Wales. They attended a private service at St. Davids Cathedral and shared a series of photographs of Queen Elizabeth on their social media accounts.

The passing of Queen Elizabeth I initiated a period of official mourning for the royal family, concluding seven days after her state funeral at Westminster Abbey, which took place on September 19, 2022. During this past year, the royal family has undergone significant changes, both publicly and privately, as they adapt to a world without their iconic queen.

Publicly, one of the most noteworthy transformations was the coronation of King Charles III and Queen Camilla, marking the first coronation in the U.K. since Queen Elizabeth’s in 1953. Other members of the family have also taken on new roles, with Prince William and Kate becoming the Prince and Princess of Wales.

Privately, the royal family experienced changes as well. Just four months after Queen Elizabeth’s passing, Prince Harry made waves with the release of his memoir, “Spare,” in January. In the book, he candidly discussed his strained relationships with Charles and William, as well as his views on the monarchy’s future. Notably, neither Buckingham Palace nor royal family members have publicly commented on the allegations raised in Harry’s memoir.

As the first year without Queen Elizabeth II draws to a close, the royal family continues to navigate these changes, honoring the queen’s legacy while adapting to new roles and responsibilities in the post-Elizabeth era.
